School Visits

Madeline Smoot is the author of Frog on Vacation from Blooming Tree Press as well as an editor for Summer Shorts, a short story anthology about summer. She lives in Austin, Texas with her 2 dogs, 2 cats and one rubber frog.

Madeline is the only child she knows whose parents had to tell her to play instead of read. She considered becoming a librarian, but she hated shelving books. Instead, she became and author and editor.

When she visits your school, Madeline shares this love of writing with your students. In 45 minute blocks, Madeline shares how books are written and illustrated – from the beginning idea to the final product.

Madeline will meet with your students in groups of 30 or less. Each group will meet for 45 minutes where they will learn about the writing and editing process and do a short writing activity. Following each presentation, Madeline will be available to sign books for the children.

Madeline can be available for either full or half days. She asks for a $100 a day (negotiable) to cover her travel expenses. If your school and/or PTA cannot afford the full honorarium, consider splitting Madeline’s time between two schools or a local library. Madeline would happily speak for a half day at both.
